Ohio - USA

Inspection of Termites: Ohio only naturally has subterranean termites

Mud tubes are what we look for. Damage to wood starts on the surface and always with the grain.  While termites will eat it all, they go for the soft wood first leaving the hard wood for later. They send out Flying Elates in the spring of each year; these are reproductive adults that seek to make new colonies. They are blind and fear birds, though ants are their true enemy.

Treatment of Termites: Extermination depends on preference and cost.

  • Trenching/ Roding is done with gallons of finished dilution to give you 10 years of protection; this is the absolute GOAT and the treatment that has been around for over 40 years.

  • Bait Stations the results are in, they work, they will kill termites, they require maintenance every six months and as long as they are in the ground they will protect your home or business

  • Granules are an affordable option, they work, but only last one year.  This draw back and risk of reinfestation is why most pest control specialists do not offer this as a choice as they cannot give a warranty on the work. Sometimes though this can solve an immediate problem cheaply and more can be done later.

Prevent Termites:  Your house is clean of termites congratulations, now is a good time to think about what you can do to prevent these pests.

Treatments to the property in the spring can kill the Elates that would make a colony, Ants also send out reproductive members as Elates, and they fly in the spring and fall twice a year. Therefore, a treatment in the spring and one in the fall with protect your property from these pests.

Avoid using wood in land scaping.

Exposed wood, unfinished or unpainted is a welcome sign.

Recommendations for Termites: If you think you have termites get a pest specialist to inspect it.

We recommend the 10 year treatment of trenching/ rodding, The maintenance requirement of the Bait Stations does not end and prices for labor go up every year. 10 Years and preventative after that and you will never see these pests again. Laps in treatment or service are your enemy. It can be pricy up front, but saves money overall.
